 Dr. Mark Romain, the president and principal owner of the Olathe Animal Hospital, Inc. since 1984, graduated with honors from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1973. During his five years on active duty with the Air Force, he served as a mechanical engineer involved in research and development contracts for the government. While on active duty, Dr. Romain became interested in veterinary medicine and started working on the requirements for admission to veterinary college. After serving his commitment to the Air Force, he was accepted to the Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine and entered the college in August of 1978 and graduated in June of 1982.
Dr. Romain has been active in the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Olathe Rotary Club, Chairman of the Olathe Friends of Scouting Campaign, and member of the Board of Advisors of the Maple Woods Community College Veterinary Technician Program. In addition, he has been an active participant in many science career programs in the Olathe School District, and long time volunteer raptor surgeon for Operation Wildlife Rehabilitation. He has many years of experience and a special interest in birds.
Dr. Romain has been married to his wife, Clare, since 1973. She is a counselor at the Alternative Junior and Senior High School Program in the Olathe school system. They have twins, Jeremy and Suzanne, who were born in 1981. Dr. Romain is an avid outdoorsman, fly fisherman and wildlife conservation advocate. Beloved pets include Tasha, the dachshund, plus Amber and Rosie, both golden retrievers.
